This is a mooncake mould from Sin Tong Nam Confectionary (Xin Dong Nan Bing Jia新东南饼家). While mooncakes are known to be round, it is also common for it to be shaped as a square. On the mould, there are carvings that says the confectionary brand name, ‘Xin Dong Nan (新东南)’. Aside from baked mooncakes, the mould would also be used to create another traditional mooncake flavor called Jin Hua Tui Yue (金华腿月), a mooncake paste that consists of mixed nuts, yolk, Jin Hua ham, and lotus paste. The mooncake was also called ‘Kam Tui’ (Jin Tui 金腿). Sin Tong Nam was first established during the 1970s at Zion Road before moving to Tiong Bahru. The confectionary was known for producing Cantonese-style Chinese pastries such as mung bean biscuits, phoenix biscuits (Ji Zai Bing鸡仔饼), and assorted biscuits (Gong Zai Bing 公仔饼).
