Year in Review is Yale-NUS College’s report, published annually between 2014 and 2018. Year in Review 2016’s theme is Full House, referencing the first time the college had all four classes of students. This issue also featured the launch of the college’s official mascot, Halcyon (a blue-eared kingfisher), which was chosen through a voting process. “Halcyon” can refer to a genus of tree kingfishers or to a bird from Greek mythology. Its symbolism was deemed to encompass the college’s ideals of youthfulness, creativity, curiosity and an adventurous spirit. The species chosen in representing the mascot, the blue-eared kingfisher, is small with deep blue and reddish-orange feathers. This became an accurate symbol of the small-sized community and vibrancy of Yale-NUS in the higher education landscape. A few achievements highlighted in this issue include the campus design winning the International Architecture Award 2016 and international environmental efforts by faculty and students.
