MRT commemorative ticket

This is a round trip commemorative ticket that was issued to mark the first day of operation of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system on 7 November 1987. 120,000 commemorative tickets were sold for $3 each, with the proceeds donated to the Community Chest. The MRT rail network was opened, initially with five stations, to meet growing demands on the transport infrastructure and to complement the existing bus network. Commuters inserted MRT tickets, which were magnetic cards, in the fare gate reader to enter and exit the gates.
