This is an SMRT single trip ticket. SMRT tickets were introduced with the opening of the MRT in 1987. Commuters inserted the tickets, which were magnetic cards, in the fare gate reader to enter and exit the gates. Single use tickets and stored value tickets were available, including tourist souvenir versions from 1992. Tickets could feature messages promoting safety, such as this ticket which reminded commuters not to lean against the platform screen doors.
