The first stage of the mass rapid transit (MRT) system was opened to passengers on Nov 1987 and on 6 July 1990, the last station on the East West Line, Boon Lay, was opened. The Perspex contained one commemorative ticket which was issued on the first day of operation in 1987 and one commemorative ticket issued to mark the completion in 1990. Proceeds from these commemorative tickets went to charity.
