This platter with the coat of arms of Juan Bautista de Uztáriz y Gaztelu, 1st Count of Reparaz (1728–1810) may have been part of a magnificent dinner service commissioned in China and shipped across the Pacific Ocean via the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade, which connected Spain and Asia from 1565 to 1815. The Uztáriz family were important figures in the galleon trade. Juan Bautista may have ordered the service around 1770 and had it transported from Manila to Spain on one of his ships, the Astraea. Only a few pieces from the service survive.
