This cigarette case was awarded to Ong Tiang Seng (?-1942), son of Ong Peng Hock (1889-1968) and grandson of Ong Sam Leong (1857-1918) on the occasion of a golf competition. The interior of the case is inscribed: "VICE PRESIDENT'S PRIZE JUNE 1941WON BYONG TIANG SENG"On the other side:"JACOBFROMBETTY & SENG"The case was gifted to Jacob Ballas (1921-2000) by Elizabeth “Betty” Boey (1919-2005) and her first husband Ong Tiang Seng. Upon Ballas' death, his partner gave the case to the couple's adopted daughter, the donor of this object.
