Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This letter is part of a collection of letters he wrote to his mother Ann, for whom he had a great love. Written from Bencoolen where Raffles was Lieutenant-Governor, this letter served to update his mother that all was well with the family.
