Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This letter is part of a collection of letters he wrote to his mother Ann, for whom he had a great love. In it, Raffles writes on board the ship the Lady Raffles in 1817, updating his mother with news of the birth of his daughter Charlotte.
