In Lampung, when children reach marriageable age, the people file their teeth to sharp points – a traditional mark of beauty. The process is considered a rite of passage to adulthood. Known as 'sihung' these tooth filing stands are gendered with the male examples such as this one being much more elaborate. Examples like were probably the property of high status families or clans.
