The Tang Shipwreck was acquired through the generous donation of the Estate of Khoo Teck Puat.
Over 180 pieces of white wares decorated with green splashes were recovered from the wreck. Most of these wares were covered with white slip (liquid clay), before translucent and copper-based glazes were applied on them to produce the decoration. The incised jinfeng 進奉 (“for [imperial] tribute”) inscription on the base of this dish suggests a link to the imperial Tang court at Chang’an. This dish may have been made as part of the regular donations of fine products that provincial governors sent to the court, or the mark may simply be imitating those found on more prestigious wares.
