The Tang Shipwreck was acquired through the generous donation of the Estate of Khoo Teck Puat.

This dish from the Tang Shipwreck suggests a link to the imperial Tang court at Chang’an. It is inscribed with 盈 (surplus) on its base. The inscription was part of the name of an imperial storehouse. It indicates that the bowl may have been a gift from a provincial governor. The Tang Shipwreck was a 9th century vessel that was en route from China back to the Middle East when it sank off the coast of Belitung Island in the Java Sea.
