This is a document concerning the estate of Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Jackson issued by the administrator of the estate and Registrar of the Court of Judicature of Prince of Wales' Island, Singapore and Malacca, John Alexander Kerr. It details the sale of a piece of land belonging to Jackson's estate in the district of Tulloh Ain Rajah and described in Grant No. 834 dated 1 June 1803, which was sold by public auction for the price of 610 Spanish dollars to a group of Chinese merchants. This document is part of a collection of legal documents from the 19th and early 20th centuries which provides a glimpse into the work of the notable personalities who left their mark on Singapore’s legal history, and the economic and other transactions undertaken by ordinary immigrants in 19th century Singapore that tell stories of misfortune and indebtedness which would otherwise have disappeared from history.
