Akha women make distinctive indigo-dyed garments such as this pleated skirt, which was worn with a colourful jacket and accessories such as leggings and elaborate headgear. The skirt is knee-length and worn low on the hips. The Akha, an ethnic minority group who migrated into Northern Thailand, originated from Yunnan in China. They moved into Burma, Laos and Vietnam during the 19th century.
