This aerial photograph shows Singapore’s city centre in 1967. It was taken by a photographic reconnaissance Canberra aircraft of 81 Squadron RAF (Royal Air Force) based at RAF Tengah. The photographic film was then processed and printed at RAF Seletar’s Joint Air Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre (JARIC). The photograph shows a wide view of the city centre, capturing the urban development of the early years of independent Singapore. It also shows the Singapore River at the heart of the city with bumboats lining its banks. Various other prominent landmarks can be seen in the photograph, including (in a clockwise order) the Cathay Building, the Padang and its surrounding buildings, Clifford Pier, Lau Pa Sat, and the Old Hill Street Police Station.
