This photograph captures King George VI (right) directly addressing Singapore Municipal Commission board member and prominent banker, Yap Pheng Geck (left), during the opening ceremony of Colonial Month in London in 1949. The event, which aimed to garner popular support for the colonies among the British population and enhance Commonwealth relations, was attended by representatives from Britain's colonies.
