The Blue Cross was a charitable body formed in 1943 by five Chinese shan tang (charitable associations) with the approval of the Japanese military administration. They ran free-meal centres, removed corpses from the streets and looked after injured victims from the Allied bombings on Singapore during the Japanese Occupation. Yap Pheng Geck was the Vice-President of the Blue Cross’s Liaison Section.
