The inflight magazine of Singapore Airlines (SIA) was first launched in 1976 as Silver Kris. Covering current and future trends in air travel, as well as travel features and destination guides, the magazine also provided information about SIA's products and services, fleet, network, and airports served. An online version of the magazine was launched in 2010 and the magazine, presently stylised as SilverKris, has been fully digital since March 2020. This issue is part of a set donated by Mr Jimmy Chew, who worked as an SIA engineer from the 1960s until his retirement in 1998.The April 1989 issue of Silver Kris contains a feature on Sentosa, an island off the south coast of Singapore known historically as Pulau Blakang Mati or Pulau Panjang. Previously containing Bugis, Malay, and Chinese settlements in the 19th century, it became a strategic location for the British Royal Artillery units later in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It was only in the 1970s that its status as a recreational space grew, when the Sentosa Development Corporation began administering and developing the island's tourism and leisure infrastructure and facilities.
