This is a TransitLink child/student GIRO farecard that entitled the user to concessionary fares. TransitLink farecards, magnetic stored value cards, were introduced in December 1990 by the TransitLink company. Commuters used the cards by inserting them in the MRT fare gate reader or bus validator machine.TransitLink GIRO farecards were introduced in July 1994. They were intended to make commuting more convenient as cards were automatically topped up from the user’s POSB bank account when they ran out of value through GIRO, an electronic payment service. The cards were also deemed more secure as the user could request TransitLink to invalidate the card if they had lost it.
