This is a life membership card for Boon Teck Residents’ Committee Senior Citizens’ Club issued by the People’s Association (PA). PA was a statutory board that aimed to foster social cohesion in Singapore. During the 1980s and 1990s, in response to Singapore’s ageing population, PA implemented several initiatives to encourage senior citizens to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Senior Citizens’ Clubs were created within Residents’ Committees, grassroots organisations that were introduced in 1978 to encourage neighbourliness in HDB estates.
