Sony Recording Walkman

The Sony Walkman was a portable cassette player produced from 1979. It was popular in Singapore and globally as a lifestyle product that allowed individuals to listen to music on the go using headphones. It provided more personal freedom and privacy when listening to music as compared to previously, when people listened primarily through home hi-fi systems or in public settings. This Recording Walkman (WM-BF608) was produced around 1990 and had a FM/AM radio and recording function. It also featured Dolby noise reduction and an auto reverse cassette mechanism, which allowed users to play both sides of the tape without turning it. The donor Ryan Lim used the Recording Walkman to listen to Mandarin pop music through the radio as well as cassette tapes, which he exchanged with his classmates in secondary school.
