Y-3 is a collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas, inspired by Yamamoto’s observation that New York businessman and women had begun to pair their corporate attire with sneakers during their commute. This collaboration was at the forefront of the athleisure trend and multiple future collaborations between high fashion and sportswear brands. These shoes were purchased by the donor, Lionnel Lim, before the covid-19 pandemic and worn while travelling in Helsinki. Lionnel Lim, Director of Society & Special Events at a+ magazine, first worked as a fashion designer-cum-merchandiser for local and regional manufacturers and later switched to writing, styling and illustrating for newspapers and various publications . Lim’s style is driven by a preference for the strange and unusual, with pieces ranging from Walter Van Bierendonck to Jean Paul Gaultier’s Soleil Sol line.
