Published in Paris in 1760, this engraving shows an optical view of a riverside village in Cochinchina. The neat and orderly village appears to host a bustling riverside trade. The work contains some "exotic" elements that were unlikely to be accurate, such as the presence of the camel on the river bank. Pre-dating the French conquest of Indochina by almost a century, this print reflects an early phase of French interest in the region.
