This permit was issued to jeweller, Lim Foon Yan (1941 – 2009) by the Singapore Police Force. The document certifies Lim as a "worker in platinum, gold and silver, carrying his trade at 82, Jalan Sultan, Singapore", a popular area for jewellery shops in the 1950s. This permit allowed jewellers to carry around precious metals and gems during the course of their work. A ca. 1980 drawing of a fastener ('kerongsang' in Malay or 'kerosang' in Baba Malay) by Lim accompanies this donation.
