The art nouveau-style ceramic tiles originally decorated the grave of Mr Ye Paiguan (葉排官) who passed away on 11 July 1928 (民国十七年五月廿四日). Mr Ye's grave was one of over 3,700 graves that were exhumed between 2013 and 2014 for the construction of a new road through Bukit Brown Cemetery. The tiles partly decorated one of the tomb shoulders of Mr Ye's grave. Both tomb shoulders were decorated with tiles of the same stylised white floral pattern.
