The ceramic tiles originally decorated the grave of Mdm Wee Siok Neo (黃淑縀) who passed away on 30 June 1923 (民国十二年五月十七日). She traced her roots to Tong'an and Quanzhou in Fujian province. Mdm Wee's grave was one of over 3,700 graves that were exhumed between 2013 and 2014 for the construction of a new road through Bukit Brown Cemetery. The tiles decorated the top section of one of the tomb shoulders of Mdm Wee's grave. Both tomb shoulders were decorated with transfer-printed tiles of the same pattern, that were likely imported from England. These tiles are one of the more unusual designs recovered from the exhumed graves at Bukit Brown Cemetery.
