This robe very likely belonged to Lau Oi Mui 劉愛梅 (1869-1904) who was married to Kwok Ching Tong in 1884. It is decorated with paired, auspicious motifs, including plum blossom, chrysanthemum, peach, peony, and butterflies, all finely embroidered in satin and knot stitches in a naturalistic style typical of the Qing period. Considered an informal robe by the standards of traditional Chinese dress, it was probably attire to be worn at festive occasions.
