This mahjong tiles set is of a style typical to those produced in China for export in the early 20th century, when the popularity of mahjong reached its peak in Europe and America. Mahjong was brought to Singapore by Chinese immigrants from southern China during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It remains as a popular game amongst the Chinese community in Singapore today.
