This red wedding ceremonial embroidered banner was commissioned for a traditional Teochew wedding. These persons likely presented it to the father of the groom as a celebratory gift. The banner is intricately embroidered with prominent Chinese motifs and ritual items. Various animals in Chinese mythology are represented on the banner, including a crane and spotted deer, both of which symbolise longevity, and a peacock, which symbolises dignity and beauty. Flowers of different varieties also adorn the banner, including lilies which represent a happy union and marriage.
