Block 34 Toa Payoh Lorong 5, built 1969

1966 was an important year for the HDB as it saw the completion of the first phase of public housing flats in the satellite town of Toa Payoh - the first town that the HDB planned from scratch. Block 34 is a long, straight slab block that faces the North West setting sun. Till the early 1970s, the public housing landscape of Singapore was dominated either by straight or right-angled slab blocks.
