This postcard shows the interior of a Chinese temple, with three large Buddha statues in Bumisparsa mudra sitting on lotus seats. Lights around the borders of their back panels. These Buddhas have only one shoulder covered by their robe, suggesting that they are in the ‘theravada’ tradition of Buddhism. Other Buddha figures and monk figures are seen below, including what appears to be a Sukothai style Buddha in abhaya mudra, distinctive for the flame atop his ushnisha. There are ornamented panels on the walls behind the Buddhas, and altars with significant carving and ornamentation, giving insight into the artistry of a Chinese Buddhist temple in Singapore. There is also a panel with Chinese words, half obscured by the edge of the postcard.
