Most of the Chinese temples in Singapore were built by Chinese immigrants and craftsmen who followed the architectural traditions of the southern province of China, specifically Guangdong and Fujian, where most of them were from. Some of the more prominent features of such temples include the roof ridge which is decorated with auspicious animals such as dragons and snakes, and the pearl located at the centre of the ridge, which represents the sun and the energy force, ‘yang’.
