Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This letter was written to him in May 1819 soon after the founding of Singapore by Charles Assey, Raffles’ private secretary in Java when Raffles was Lieutenant-Governor. In this letter, Assey mentions how Raffles’ recent publications had angered the British cabinet.
