Radiogram with Plessey autochanger & two HMV 78rpm records

This radiogram is a combination of a radio and a record player. The record player is designed to play 10-inch shellac records at 78 rpm. These records, colloquially referred to among Malay and Peranakan communities as "piring hitam" (lit. "black dishes") allude to the rapid transfer of entertainment and media technologies from the West to the East, made possible by colonial conditions and networks.
