This pair of embroidered panels is decorated with Chinese auspicious motifs of butterflies, pheonixes and peonies. The borders are decorated with the eight buddhist emblems. During festive occasions like weddings, Peranakans used various, elaborate, decorative textiles and objects for ceremonies and presentation. Early pieces of silk and metal-thread embroidery show more Chinese or Malay influences, by the 20th century, European-inspired beadwork became popular.
