This rare pair of embroidered door hangings has gold and coloured thread embroidery on a pink silk base. It has fringed coloured tassels at its base and an array of motifs that include the phoenix, epony and what appears to be a bat or swallow. The colours are intact and hangings are in good condition. The hangings come from the Khoo family of Penang and were presented to the donor's relative as a farewell present. This pair would have been hung over the entrances to the reception hall, on black and gold partition screens. They are usually used only on festive occasions.
