This pair of bed hangings is elaborately embroidered in turquoise, red and lavendar silk with gold and coloured threads. The top panel has motifs of pheasants and flowers while a lavendar silk border is embroidered with flowers at the hem. The bottom panel consists of motifs of two lions playing with embroidered balls, phoenixes and peony. The hanging is backed with pink cotton and a coloured knotted fringe is sewn at the edge. Bed hangings such these along with other auspicious symbols and decorations were part of the ensemble that adorned the traditional Peranakan wedding bed.
