The vest is decorated with peonies and auspicious wedding motifs. The border is decorated with the eight buddhist emblems. It was worn by the page boy as part of the traditional Peranakan Chinese 12-day wedding. Peranakan fashion reflect cross-cultural influences but Chinese clothing were generally preferred for key wedding ceremonies, as a reflection of their Chinese heritage.
