The vest is decorated with motifs of phoenixes, peonies and auspicious wedding motifs. It was worn by the page boy as part of the traditional Peranakan Chinese 12-day wedding. Peranakan fashion reflect cross-cultural influences but Chinese clothing were generally preferred for key wedding ceremonies, as a reflection of their Chinese heritage.
