This crescent-shaped acrylic evening bag with metal work decorations belonged to Mdm Tong Swee Ying, who was the wife of a banker, Mr Kwok Chan Kwan. Mrs Kwok often attended business and social parties with her husband in the 1950s and 60s. Mr Kwok worked in Batavia before the war and while he was interned as a prisoner of war (POW) during the Japanese occupation, Mrs Kwok evacuated with their children to Singapore. The family was reunited later and resettled down in Singapore after 1952.
