This piece suggests the Westernised taste of their owners. Their creamy pastel and earth tones differ from the vibrant and bright colours of the traditional Peranakan textile arts. This handbag has elements of tendrils and floral flourishes similar to the motifs on European decorative arts at the turn of the 20th century. The scrolling designs formed from cut glass beads of four colours is a contrast to more familiar Peranakan motifs.
