The Dischidia rafflesiana, now Dischidia major and known commonly as the Malayan urn plant, was named such in 1822 by Nathaniel Wallich in honour of his friend Sir Stamford Raffles. Wallich was the superintendant of the Calcutta Botanical Gardens and had collected this plant together with Raffles during his time in Singapore. This coloured print was reproduced in horticultural journal Flore des serres et des Jardins de l'Europe, founded by the Belgian horticulturalist Louis Benoit van Houtte.
