Theodore de Bry's map of Southeast Asia

Theodore de Bry was an engraver and publisher in Europe in the 16th century. This map is his edition of Willem Lodewijcksz's map of the region around the Straits of Malacca, including Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and the southern part of the Malay Peninsula. Lodewijcksz was a member of the first major Dutch voyage to the East Indies led by Cornelis de Houtman, and while his map was originally intended for publication it was withdrawn as the Dutch wished to restrict access to the information contained.
