Japanese Occupation war tax documents with envelop issued by Syonan Gunseibu

War tax was required from all who were to continue their business during the Japanese Occupation period. This set of documents served as a proof that the owner of Song Seng Chan had paid its due tax to the Japanese and thus was able to continue with its bicycle business. Interestingly the Japanese demanded that the shop pay war tax dated back to 1940, two years before the Japanese invasion of Singapore.
