The songs in the record are Art Mooney and his orchestra. Mooney was a popular American bandleader in the 1940s and 1950s. The songs here were recorded by the MGM record company which was established by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio in 1946. Music from England and America were gaining popularity amongst Peranakans in Singapore and the Straits during the early 20th century. Musical bands and troupes were formed during this period and they would perform at celebratory occasions organized by Peranakans such as birthdays and weddings.
