Just like World Children (Shijiertong), Little Friends (Xiao Pengyou) and Nanyang Children (Nanyang Ertong), Ertong pengyou (Children and friends) was among a series of popular children’s publications from the post WW2 era. A high proportion of these materials was usually imported from Hong Kong but some of them was also printed locally and its contents twnd to include folk tales and popular stories from China, Southeast Asia, and the West. These stories helped shaped the readers’ cultural perspective of the world as well as widened their general knowledge.
