Just like World Children (Shijiertong) and Little Friends (Xiao Pengyou), Nanyang Children (Nanyang Ertong) was among a series of popular children’s publications from the post WW2 era. Set up in the 1930s, the Nanyang Book Company published textbooks and newspapers on top of these educational materials for children/youths. The contents of the magazine tend to include folk tales and popular stories from China, Southeast Asia, and the West. These stories helped shaped the readers’ cultural perspective of the world as well as widened their general knowledge.
