Apart from being an avid photographer, Chua Tiag Ming was instrumental in the development of photography in Singapore, having published 2 books on photography, particularly as reference guides for budding local photographers and serving in the committee of the Photographic Society of Singapore. "Untitled (Beach)" is a rare work that does not feature labourers at work but a couple taking a leisurely walk on the beach. His subjects were his brother and sister-in-law. The work shows a mastery of the use of light and shadow and a distinct aesthetic in its focus on the human form in action.
