Apart from being an avid photographer, Chua Tiag Ming was instrumental in the development of photography in Singapore, having published 2 books on photography, particularly as reference guides for budding local photographers and serving in the committee of the Photographic Society of Singapore. His technique demonstrates a disciplined adherence to the conventions of framing and composition, and a mastery of the use of light and shadow. His works also show a distinct aesthetic in its focus on the human form in action. "Untitled (Painter)" is quite a typical example of Chua's portraits of labourers at work.
