Eighteen silver ingots were found on the Tang shipwreck, a 9th-century vessel en route from China to Middle East when it sank off the coast of Belitung Island in the Java Sea. They all have a distinctive shape, narrowing slightly in the middle. They do not bear any inscriptions, so their origin or intended use is uncertain. They constitute the earliest as well as largest group of Tang silver bullion discovered to date.
